I Feel the Most Free When...

I Feel the Most Free When...

I feel the most free when... | A free writing exercise from National Writing Day

I feel the most free when...

I have no one and nothing to answer to. I can let my mind roam in the silence, hands clasped, legs crossed, the only open conduit is in my head. My thoughts are busy, flitting to and fro like a squirrel, writing the prose of my heart. As I travel down the road to expression, I walk with my muse, whispering feverishly into her ear, pleading for a response. It's a game, you see. Flattery, bribery, cajoling. Cold shoulder, begrudgingly divulging a smile.

I feel the most free when...

I can be me. Wholly and truly. I can drop the façade. The care and the hesitation. They always say that you can be "too much" for some people. But not for myself. I can be and say and do as I please. It's a luxury many do not and cannot have.

I feel the most free when...

The ocean is spread out before me. Waves crashing with fury, like a roller coaster speeding down the track. I don't want to get in, but I like to watch it fly. It sparkles and comforts in the same swell. A lullaby from the sea.

I feel the most free when...

I am breathing in the scent of my lover's skin. There are no worries in that moment. Just the safety of my velvety cocoon. Surrounded by love, unconditional and unyielding. There's no other feeling like it. The human embodiment of the wind thrashing through your hair, the rain on the rooftop, or the song in your ear.

I feel the most free when...

I am me.
